Top 10 most common Diseases of CATS

Here are the 10 most common diseases of cats.
But remember, the best way to prevent any disease is to comply with the dates of vaccination and keep the visits to the veterinarian.

1. Otitis :

It is an inflammation of the ear canal very common in dogs, but also in kittens and in adult cats. It can generate pain and, in more extreme cases, the loss of hearing. Usually occurs by the presence of parasites such as mites (watch your cat does not have a brown secretion in the ears when they are cleaned), but also by fungi or bacteria. If your cat has otitis, you will recognize it from the discomfort it shows when scratching or the number of times it does.

 2. Conjunctivitis :

It is one of the most frequent problems in cats that can be given at any age. It is the inflammation of the mucosa of the eye (of the membrane that covers it and of the interior of the eyelid). The cat can lose sight if it is not diagnosed and treated in time. It can be due to eye infections, allergies, various diseases (those that affect the respiratory system), dirt from the environment, trauma or genetic problems. You will find that your feline has conjunctivitis due to excessive leaks, tearing or opacity of the cornea.

 3. Rabies :

This disease causes a virus that is transmitted through the saliva by the bite of an infected animal. It can be transmitted between species, from animals to humans and vice versa, and it is controlled by a vaccine that in several places of Spain is obligatory. Galicia, Catalonia and the Basque Country are exempt from this obligation.

4. Feline Leukemia:

It is a type of cancer that is transmitted by contact of the body fluids, be it saliva, blood or urine. It usually affects young and young specimens and can even cause death. The symptoms of this disease are the lack of appetite, the drowsiness, the anemia, the appearance of tumors or the weakness. To prevent your cat from vaccinating leukemia.

 5. Panleucopenia felina :

Generally panleucopenia is known as feline distemper, enteritis or infectious gastroenteritis. It is a deadly disease caused by a parvovirus and the most common symptoms are fever and later hypothermia, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, dehydration, anorexia and a significant decrease in leukocytes and / or white blood cells in the blood. The treatment consists of intravenous hydration and antibiotics, although there is vaccination against this disease.

 6. Feline Immunodeficiency :

Commonly known as feline aids, it is a disease that can become deadly caused by lentivirus. Usually affects non-sterilized adult cats and the symptoms that will make us suspect this disease are: mouth infections, respiratory diseases, intestinal infections, weight loss, fungal diseases? It is transmitted by a bite from another infected animal and has no treatment or can be prevented by vaccination.

7. Peritonitis  :

It is an infectious disease caused by a virus of the coronavirus family. The most notable symptoms are: fever, anorexia, an increase in the volume of the abdomen and accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, thus invading all organs and systems of the body. It has no treatment, although there is vaccination against this disease. It can become deadly, especially in young cats.

8. Gastrointestinal problems :

Diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite or weakness are several of the symptoms of this disease that affects our pet, especially the young. It usually occurs when the cat ingests food in poor condition, although it can also be caused by a bacterial infection, a virus or by the presence of parasites. If you suspect this disease, go to the veterinarian urgently.

9. Cystitis:

As in people, the urinary system is more problematic as the cat ages. Minerals are formed that obstruct the urinary tract, causing pain when urinating, high thirst, total absence of urination, licking of the urinary tract, vomiting or urinating in a place other than the litter box. There is treatment to eliminate the minerals and in addition the cat has to follow a special diet.
